Abstract
Elementary school students across districts are provided with free breakfasts on a daily basis, however, the mental, behavioral, and overall physiological health impacts of these meals are often overlooked. The purpose of my project is to provide an in-depth literature review that discusses the historical and legislative systems that have molded our modern school breakfast programs. Furthermore, I will yield an investigation towards two school populations: one privileged and one underserved. Such research will allow me to provide scholarly literature that elucidates how I, as a future professional educator, can mitigate the inequity gaps between these two populations. As seen in my findings, it can be indicated that students who consume school breakfasts are better off universally, due to the satisfaction of being satiated. This was found despite the meal programs' need for improvement, in regards to quality and a lack of provisions towards meeting age-appropriate nutritional needs
