Abstract
As part of child development, play is considered a critical component to help children acquire the skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Playgrounds are the primary platforms or spaces that would allow children to have the kinds of physical and social related interactions that would take place among children. This senior capstone examines the school playgrounds in the Salinas area to see if they meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Using literature review and interviews with educators and parents, the result findings indicate that school playgrounds are not in compliance with ADA mandates. It is recommended that additional equipment could be added to the existing school playgrounds to make them more accessible and inclusive for children with mobility impairments in the area.
