Abstract
Nonprofit organizations in health and human services often face limited leadership capacity and a lack of sustainable systems to measure long-term outcomes. This impacts their ability to demonstrate their contribution towards leadership development and equitable community outcomes. Impact Launch is a San Francisco-based organization that conducts most of its work throughout the Greater Bay Area. The organization is dedicated to equity and inclusion, with core services that include leadership intensives, project design, and strategic planning. Impact Launch serves nonprofit and community leaders, including organizations working on poverty reduction, education, mental health, and food security. The purpose of this project was to develop a sustainable and practical evaluation system to measure and understand the impacts of the Radical Transformational Leadership (RTL) program and Impact Launch’s consulting services on leadership development and community outcomes. The system developed includes standardized data collection tools, interview protocols, pre- and post-RTL program surveys, and a centralized data collection system to track both outputs and outcomes. Six pilot qualitative interviews were conducted to test the system and capture leadership shifts. After surveying the Impact Launch Team, results indicate that the project met and exceeded the expected outcomes, with 100% of staff reporting increased understanding of leadership impact, willingness to adopt at least two new data collection tools, and confidence in the use and system’s sustainability. Recommendations include continuing implementation of the evaluation system to support long-term outcome measurement and strengthen the organization’s ability to demonstrate its contribution to leadership development and equitable community impact.
