Abstract
Too many students at Learning For Life Charter School graduate without a clear understanding of social mobility and are unprepared for the academic and practical demands of college. This project addressed the need for increased FAFSA completion and college and career readiness among 11th and 12th grade high school students graduating in the 2026 school year. The purpose of this project was to provide support to help students get federal student aid by walking them through filling out the FAFSA form and giving clear steps so they could apply without stress. Key activities included workshops, one-on-one support guiding students through each part of the FAFSA application process, and email reminders regarding deadlines. As a result of the project, there was a 12% increase in applications for FAFSA. Those who received direct support were more likely to submit applications and showed more confidence and understanding. Students also reported feeling more comfortable asking questions in one-on-one settings. These findings highlight the importance of personalized support, clear communication, and financial aid education in health and human services settings. It is recommended that future efforts begin earlier in the school year and expand individualized support to increase participation and completion rates.
