Abstract
Monterey County Behavioral Health Bureau (MCBH), a division within the Monterey County Health Department contributes to promote mental health services to all age groups in the area. The importance of mental health is vital. Currently, suicide is an issue that affects the overall population, but high rates have been prevalent in youth ages 15-19 becoming the 2nd leading cause of death in teens. The lack of mental health awareness and intervention plays an important factor in the growth of suicide rates that are seen yearly. Addressing the importance of this issue, can impact and benefit a teenager’s overall functionality and healthy mental practices. The purpose of this project is to primarily raise awareness through outreach in schools around the Monterey County region by speaking to teens about signs of suicide, access to services, and engaging teens in destigmatizing mental health through activities. By implementing this approach, gradual change in decreasing rates is expected throughout time.
