Abstract
Bullying is a widespread problem within our public school systems. Numerous studies have been done about the problems with bullying in elementary schools, including the long term emotional and psychological effects it causes children. This senior capstone examines the emotional and psychological effects bullying on students at the elementary schools. The findings show that children who are bullied are at greater risk for depression, anxiety, suicide, and eventually affect their academic achievement. In many of these cases, parents and teachers have ignored symptoms like stomachaches and headaches in children and assume that children are faking in order to avoid going to school and/or participating in school activities. Prevention strategies must be a taught as part of the teacher’s classroom policies, to help empower the students against bullying.
