Abstract
A lack of implementing environmental issues, such as recycling, in the Salinas Valley Elementary Schools has generated a misunderstanding of what it take to have a clean environment. There is a window of opportunity for working with students at the Elementary School level despite the busy teaching and learning in the classrooms. Environmental issues may be less important when measuring up to other critical subject areas. Through use of student surveys, a teacher interview and lesson plans, there is a need to teach elementary school students on how to properly recycle. The finding reveals that students lack the motivation and recycling needs to be taught, so they could make connections with environmental issues within their community. Students need to embrace the concept of recycling and practice it in and out of the classrooms.
