Abstract
Video-games can have both positive and negative effects on children. However, videogames have become more violent and graphic and accessible to school age children. The potential impacts of violent video-game play on children have become a big concern, particularly regarding their impact on children’s aggression. To gain an insight into these concerns about videogames, two teachers, a counselor, parents, and a principal were interviewed. There was agreement among all respondents that violent video-games adversely affect children’s behavior, causing children to act in aggressive and inappropriate ways. To determine the types of games that elementary school children are playing, a 3rd and 5th grade class were surveyed. Although the majority of students play age appropriate games, one-third of the students surveyed play age-inappropriate violent video games. Based on the interviews and surveys, a resource for parents was created with information and tips on how to reduce the harmful effects of video-games.
