Abstract
Physical education and physical activity are critical to a child’s early growth and development. This research project was designed to explore how much physical activity fits in an elementary class curriculum. The researcher focused on one second grade elementary class and interviewed the second grade teacher about her students’ daily physical activity. Researcher revealed that the teacher’s curriculum could only accommodate ten minutes of physical activity. In response, the researcher implemented- a class activity that integrated ten minutes of physical activity into the morning class schedule, and the exercise was based on a children’s fitness video comprised of twelve fitness segments. By utilizing an effective classroom tool that provided both fitness and entertainment, the researcher supplied the teacher with structured materials that promoted physical activity in the classroom.
