Abstract
Sensory integration plays an important role in the development of children; however, it is an unfamiliar topic for many parents. For most children, sensory integration skills develop naturally, but for others, it does not develop as efficiently as it should. Children who develop inadequate sensory integration cannot rely on their senses to give them an accurate picture of the world. Also, they may have trouble learning and behaving appropriately. My capstone project examines sensory integration and its benefits in the development of children. Through literature review, interviews, and self-experience, findings revealed sensory integration greatly influences behavior, learning and development of children. The goal of my senior capstone research project is to educate parents on sensory integration so they can help children develop sensory integration abilities; therefore, they will be able to assist all the necessary developmental areas and support the achievement of their children’s potential.
