Abstract
Social anxiety is a mental disability that is often misunderstood and overlooked. Even those who suffer from the condition may not know that they have it and that there are resources available to help them. If untreated, social anxiety can control a person’s life, leading to drug abuse, broken social relationships, poor academic performance, and limited career choices. As someone who suffers from social anxiety, this was one of the biggest obstacles to becoming a teacher. The goal of this project was to research social anxiety so that I could work towards overcoming it and look for ways for teachers to recognize and help students who may have it. Students who suffer from anxiety were surveyed to find common experiences to see what they would like to see done to help.
