Abstract

Parental support is crucial for the emotional development and academic achievement of schoolchildren. As children get older and school content becomes increasingly more difficult, migrant parents often feel limited in their ability to provide a higher level of academic support. As a result, the population of migrant parents becomes less involved in the education of its children. In the “Cultivating Our Harvests” workshops I created, parents and children came together and participated in activities that helped parents increase their sense of self-efficacy and helped encourage them to become more involved in their children’s education. After participating in the workshops, parents learned ways to help reinforce their children’s learning at home in the efforts to build on their children’s skills, confidence, and eagerness to learn for their educational success and a future with better opportunities.
