Abstract
We have examined the definition and aspects of language brokering. Specifically, through reviewing and exploring the literature that discusses significant findings from previous research, we have investigated the factors that are involved in language brokering. We have investigated the issues and impacts of language brokering on the child, acculturation process, and family structure. Our project focused on gathering data from surveys given to Latino CSUMB students who currently translate for their parents and are between the ages of 18-25. We then analyzed the findings and reflected on our experiences collecting data, in collaboration with a distinguished faculty member whose research specializes in the area of language brokering.
