Abstract
The focus of this capstone project is to encourage students to pursue a higher education by being aware that going to college is possible. They need to understand the value of higher education: opportunities for them to succeed, qualify for better jobs, and have a brighter future. Our capstone project focuses on informing fifth-grade students about the opportunities available to them to attend college. Often times parents do not encourage their children to go to college because they cannot afford to pay for tuition, etc. due to their family financial needs. Many of these students have not received any knowledge regarding college because college preparation workshops are not available to students in elementary school. These same parents are also not aware of the resources available to them such as federal aid, scholarships, and loans. Many parents also don’t talk to their children about college because it was not a priority in their own lives. Our purpose has been to educate students and their parents about college, and to encourage them to fulfill their educational dreams.
