Abstract
Social and emotional skills play a central role in shaping student achievement and success throughout the elementary school years. Integrating social and emotional learning in the elementary classroom will help students manage their emotions, behaviors, value learning, enjoy making new friends, have confidence in themselves and to be able to succeed academically. However, not all schools have social-emotional learning programs integrated into their curriculum. This project is a case study of two academic coordinators and two teachers and how they integrate social and emotional skills into their student’s education. Based on an analysis of the data and the relevant research literature, an action project was developed to provide the academic coordinators and teachers with a resource packet on information about how to promote social and emotional learning to parents and how to integrate SEL into the classroom. The goal of this project was to help spread the importance of soc ial emotional learning in the elementary classroom.
