Abstract
With the recent transition to the new Common Core Curriculum, math instruction has seen many changes, especially at the elementary level. For this Capstone Project, the researcher will investigate the concerns of teachers, principals, and other faculty members, at Del Rey Woods Elementary, in regards to math instruction under the new Common Core Curriculum. Via individual interviews conducted with these participants, the researcher explored the major interests of the stakeholders, and identified their recurring concerns in regards to the posed research question. Based on the data collected from faculty interviews, and the relevant research literature associated with this focus topic, the researcher determined an appropriate action to meet the needs of the stakeholders. The action project consisted of the researcher developing a bilingual resource for students, teachers, and parents of children attending Del Rey Woods Elementary. The resource was made available via an online portal and was intended to bridge the gap between teachers, students, and parents during this time of curricular transition.
