Abstract

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy is a pedagogy that recognizes the importance of including students’ cultural references in all aspects of learning (Lanson-Billings, 1994). This strategy gets students engaged in the curriculum and back to enjoy school. In fact, it is the teacher’s responsibility to make a difference in students’ lives. This capstone examines the effects of implementing culturally responsive pedagogy in elementary students. Through use of literature review and interviewing with seven teachers in the Monterey Bay Area, culturally responsive pedagogy is found to be an effective strategy to help students learn.
