Abstract
This paper explores bullying in elementary schools, specifically among students in early elementary grades Kindergarten through 3rd, the negative impact bullying has on elementary school children, the methods teachers use as preventative measures for bullying and parents’ need for effective resources and information about bullying. Through student surveys, this capstone examines student’s experiences of bullying and shows a need for teaching students about bullying from the bystander point. Through a teacher interview this capstone examines teacher’s experiences of bullying and shows a need for teacher training with the focus on teacher perception. Through a parent interview this capstone examines parent’s experiences of bullying and shows a need for easily accessible bullying resources and information for parents. Based on the results I developed a lesson plan focusing on bullying bystanders for early elementary grades.
