Abstract
There is an epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States that must be addressed and made aware to those who are and even those who are not affected by childhood obesity. One of the ways in which childhood obesity can be solved is by the implementation of nutrition education in elementary schools. In order to begin implementing nutrition education in elementary schools it is vital to get the perspectives of the teachers. This was accomplished by interviewing five first-grade elementary school teachers. Teachers reported that the barriers preventing nutrition education being taught is the lack funding, resources, and support from their colleagues. The ultimate goals are to get nutrition education into classrooms to inform the youth on healthier nutrition and to prevent childhood obesity from becoming an even larger epidemic. Informing the youth by implementing nutrition into their education can have a lifelong impact on a healthy lifestyle.
