Description

Clem Morales is a Filipino American raised in California and the Philippines. He gives a personal record of his parents coming to America in 1926. His parents opened a labor camp in Chualar where Clem Morale was born. His mother would go on to open a Laundromat in Salinas Chinatown, and his father would move the labor camp from Chualar to just off of Highway 68. Clem Morales spent time as a young man in both the Philippines and at Lincoln High School in Salinas. His mother, too, lived seemingly different lives between the two place. In the Philippines his mother was involved with the Guerrilla movement during WWII in the southern end of the Philippines, while Clem was around the age of 13, forced to go to a Japanese school. While they were in the Salinas area, Mr. Morales mother started many programs for the Filipino youth, while Mr. Morales played sports and participated in the programs created by his mother. Clem discusses his parents activities as Filipinos, his thoughts on the currant status of the Filipino community and reflects heavily on his work experiences throughout his life.
