Abstract
The focus of this Capstone Project is on parent-school interaction among Mixteco speaking parents. This is important because it is believed that Mixteco parents do not discuss academics with their children. Scholars agree that parental involvement plays a big role in a student's education. Therefore, this paper will provide insights on how to improve parental involvement among Mixteco speaking parents. An argument is made that language and lack of resources prevent these families from actively participating in their children’s education. Considerations of the issue included the perspectives of a parent educator, a language support liaison, parents, and students. Based on an analysis of the data and the relevant research literature three themes emerged. An action is recommended to eliminate the barriers that Mixteco speaking parents face when communicating with schools.
