Abstract
Mariposa Wellness Center is an agency that works to improve the quality of life for people with mental illness. It serves approximately 100 adults in Santa Cruz County. The macro-level problem is that too many people have untreated mental health conditions. The agency problem this project addresses is a lack of knowledge regarding mental health. This project aims to create a curriculum that will help clients gain knowledge and awareness to better cope with their mental illness. This educational project included researching best practices and delivering them in weekly group sessions. The expected outcome is to improve the client's ability to cope with and reduce their level of depression. Findings from the assessment include different topics on depression such as understanding depression, exploring what is really behind depression, awareness of depression warning signs, identifying triggers for depression, tips and techniques for coping with depression, and self-care strategies. The recommendation for the agency is to continue offering self-care workshops so clients can continue practicing self-care.
