Abstract
There is wide variation in children’s readiness for kindergarten. Some children have difficulties learning new tasks such as recognizing numbers, letters, shapes, and learning to read. Lack of Kindergarten readiness can cause a child to be behind academically making it difficult to advance, running the risk of failing a grade level. Several factors related to low readiness for school. For example, one factor is low socioeconomic background. Another factor is immigration; for example, immigrant parents can be unaware of California academic standards. Parents from low-income and immigrant background would benefit from educational workshops that teach them different home activities that will help their children be ready for kindergarten.
