Abstract
This project focuses on providing students with an opportunity for self-expression through dance in a safe environment in Del Rey Woods Elementary after school program. Bringing dance to the After School Academy allows students to be successful in emotional awareness and expression, self-confidence, and appropriate peer interactions.The project involved one group of K-2 grade and the second group 3rd-5th grade, both on different days of the week. The lessons included learning dance vocabulary, improv, and learned different types of dances including zumba, jazz, and hip-hop. When the dance program concluded, the students performed for their peers showing the work that they had accomplished.
