Context of Activity or Assignment
Students use the “Critical Thinking Questionnaire Blueprint Scale” to quantitatively evaluate their own critical thinking skills. The assignment requires students to then qualitatively reflect on their self-identified strengths and weaknesses regarding two highest-scoring and two lowest-scoring items.
Purpose of Activity or Assignment
To enable students to engage in metacognitive self-assessment by evaluating their own thought process using a critical thinking scale. To identify and reflect upon personal strengths and weaknesses in critical thinking skills.
Potential Pitfalls and Teaching Tips
Ensure students make a copy of the “critical thinking scale.xlsx” file into their cloud before filling the scale out. Remind students to select the “Paste unlinked” option when transferring the table into their final document. Emphasize that the goal is not a high score; if a person scores full, the questionnaire is doing a bad job. Encourage honest reflection and remind them to keep this in mind when scoring.
